Amy Dreyer is a 19 year old singer-songwriter originally from Cape Town, South Africa, currently living in North Vancouver, Canada. She began singing before she could talk and her deep love for music led her to learn violin, flute and piano at a young age, and later, guitar. Her classical background and deep-rooted love for African beats gives her music a unique rhythmic base on which the flowing melodic lines fall.
She likes to dive in and get involved in everything musical she possibly can. In high school, she won the most promising music student award as well as several other awards; and has been involved in talent shows, choirs, bands and fundraisers. Amy is also currently the Youth Worship Director at a youth group called Oasis, which is held at her church. She is currently studying international development at SFU and working on music, hoping to record a five song EP once she has the funding to do so.
Music has given her hope. It has transformed her from the quietest kid sitting in the back of the classroom to someone who can confidently perform in front of a crowd. She hopes that her story will inspire others to pursue their dreams, because she used to be the kid that thought she could never say a word in front of anyone, never mind perform in front of them.
She is inspired by best friends and coffee and the ocean at sunset and Jesus and her family and the simple things in life. The music that comes from this inspiration is real and from her heart. She means every word that she sings. Her music is her life in lyrics.
